Subject: Ladies of Isshinryu January Seminar Report
Release Date: Friday January 23, 2009
The Ladies of Isshin-ryu annual workout was held on the traditional 3rd weekend of January. Stephanie Huskey hosted the event in Athens, Tennessee at her beautiful and very spacious dojo on Saturday, January 17, 2009.

Stephanie Huskey started the day with drills designed to practice the Isshin-ryu stances. Next up was Julie Gabbard with her insightful bunkai techniques. Theresa Barnette shared five things to remember when competing in kumite at tournaments, and I closed the workout with back to the basics…… Isshin-ryu self-defense techniques.

Wow……maybe that would be a good descriptive of the day. Attending were: Candi Sabo, Chelsea West, Ohavia Smith, Lori Ayres, Brittany Roberts, Jessica Dunsmore, Kim Henson, Angie Higginbotham, Amanda Amos, Scooter Tumlin, Anita Miller, and Sarah Roy from the I.I.K.A. It was great to have Ruth Ann Shamblin attend from OKU and JoAnn Nelson from Hanover, Illinois, would have to be the person recognized as driving the longest distance! We did miss our friend and fellow L.O.I. sister Nancy Webb who was unable to be with us this year.

As always we enjoyed our time together. There was no room for egos or political view -- only eighteen women working hard, learning from each other, and doing so in the name of Isshin-ryu Karate. There is nothing better.

Ladies……. You are always welcome to join us. Just be prepared to work, share ideas, laugh, and of course eat after the workout. Hope to see you next year!

Respectfully,
Carol Burris
